Classes

All the classes are aimed at having a good time, getting fitter with likeminded people. It’s a really positive and relaxed place to be and many people make new friends through our classes.

Most of the classes are mixed ability and beginners and those new to exercise are welcome. We are confident in our ability to teach a variety of abilities as most people don’t actually slot neatly into a particular level.

There is a dedicated beginner’s class on Tuesday evening for those who feel more confident starting with people of a similar ability.

We have 6 poles and a maximum of 12 people in a class. We feel that this offers the right balance between high quality tuition and personal safety.

When you first come, you will be made to feel welcome by the instructors and you will be asked to fill in a short health Questionnaire. You will be provided with a written information sheet, to take away and keep, which describes the instructor’s responsibilities to you.

General structure for first lesson

• Aerobic warm up and preparatory Stretches
• Introduction to the pole, building confidence
• Correct position, grip and movement
• Basic spins
• Accentuating the body using movement and poses
• A short dance putting together what you have learned
• Cool down stretches

Pole Magnets works on five areas of skill in classes; Strength, Flexibility, balance and control, personal style and fluidity. Each area of skill has several ability levels and you will work through these at your own pace. The instructors act with discretion and will have a good idea of what your next challenge will be, this can be different for everyone and you will soon identify for yourself where you need to progress.

We do offer grading, to national standards, if this is what you want.

The Instruction

There are 2 senior instructors and 5 assistant instructors who teach at Pole Magnets All of them have experience in teaching in other areas as well as pole dance, have experience in either other dance disciplines or fitness (or both) and have or are working towards higher levels of Pole Dance Accreditation.* They will break down moves into simple parts, encourage and support students to progress and have fun with the class.
When Instruction becomes more advanced, you will be guided through the moves in a progressive way, with demonstrations, spotters and safety mat (if requested).
Because our classes are kept to a minimum number, we can provide a really personalised service. If there is an area of skill you wish to work on, any of our instructors will be happy to help!
In most classes, there are usually 2 instructors who are observant, helpful, and dynamic. Pole Magnets classes are great value for money when you consider the high level of tuition you receive.

Stretches incorporated in poses

Private and group lessons are also available.

(Pole Dance Instruction Accreditation is from the Pole Dance Community, which is widely accepted in the U.K. as a standard in Pole Dance Tuition).
